Re: Sup. Rivers... a "tool"
I thanked you in your last post because of the last thing your said, It all starts at home. And you do bring up some very valid points. That is the first time I have seen or heard any reasoning to any of this that makes any common sense.
And cane, rest assured it is no friend of mine. It is more than likely someone you have ****ed off before. But, please don't go laying the blame off on me for that.
Re: Sup. Rivers... a "tool"
The number on issue people raise about how to get this to work now is the Power plant. The isn't any inkling this thing will come online because the same company has built two of them in the last few years and they both set idle no producing any revenue or provide any jobs. I would wager Dominion took use of a gov't reform or stimulus package of some kind to build it.
Our county should have been wiser and spent money in the last 20 yeasr on a recreation facility like Abingdon has as potential to keep people here and refurbished theses schools and to have approved VDOT built that 4 lane from the Ramsey intersection by the subdivision in wise next to heritage hall around to the Tech park, but no they let the "old money" determine they dont want to better out county until those people are dead in the ground. We lost N-G to Lebanon because of their antics that were on the front pages on the newspapers, kept those jobs out of Wise Co.

Great point however there should be no need to wait as I am sure that the projections for revenue have been done and are already in long term budgets (Meaning that the extra money is already accounted for and not a windfall)......Now it is possible that funding from the state could get a bump but it seems more likely that any bump would be offset by the recalculations of the funding formulas the state uses that is being pushed for by the more populated areas of the state

One day it might make sense that government (schools included) has to be funded...that's not negotiable. I know there's a sense of entitlement to many in this area, but when the dust settles folks are inevitably gonna have to man up and pay for the things they want...not everything in life is in the form of a hand out.
Nothing to refute, so you play the age card huh? Niiiiice. This isn't an entitlement issue, you've been infatuated with that for as long as I've been on here, but now you're applying it to this and it's pretty off base. No one is asking for anything more than what they need to receive a good education, not an Ipad for every kid to do their homework on or whatever, but just things most have and what these kids deserve.

Recession has been over for years, we're feeling the cuts of Bobby in the Governors Mansion - there had to be cuts, just not really any to education, let alone 600+ million. You didn't really adress his question, you just see where we're at after the recession that ended and the plant going online that probably won't ever happen. And then what? Oh yeah, there's that pesky enrollment problem, they're only going to drop and drop as they have been over the years...and keeping 6 old ass schools open will bury is ever further.
My household consists of my parents and me, that means three of us. Do you think we have 6 old gas guzzlers? Nope, we have 3 newer vehicles that are good on gas...why would we need 6? Only need 3, can't afford the upkeep, the gas/costs that come along with 6. Why would the County need 6 old schools when they only need three new ones?
And again, that argument is very flawed, has some halfway decent points but mostly flawed. Why? Well you can't blame everything on the teachers, there are some bad teachers, that's a true - consolidation would probably weed them out though, even though you said you wanted ALL teachers to keep their jobs. But teachers work with what they have, the educational tools they are provided. A mechanic know how to fix a car blindfolded, but if he doesn't have the proper tools in his tiny garage, he's not going to do the best job he could with them. I've not heard anyone say the kids are kidding a bad education, I'm saying that it could be better, a lot better in some areas and consolidation offers that. Not too hard to understand, this isn't a system of equations or take a massive amount of intellect to figure out...it's pretty clear and common sense once someone takes an unbiased look the situation and pros/cons.

R13, before I'd come on here to match wits with you, I'd just sit down and try to have a conversation with a hamster...cuz both of you have about the same reasoning skills. So, why don't you just go have some more of mommy's titty while the big boys talk.

Lets keep this on topic I agree R13 is starting to go into Attack mode a bit but this is too good a thread to ruin with personal mud slinging.....Do you have a Response to his Legit issues (not the age thing which I think was just a catalyst to shift this topic away from what it should be)

There's nothing legit in that response to address....all ya have to do is turn on channel 10 if you are interested in rhetoric like that. It is interesting that according to the Census, the population of SWVA is rising. Everything goes in waves...the economy, population, etc. It is prudent to not become like chicken little and think the sky is falling when these things happen...

It would be equaly prudent to not be like the grasshopper and never plan for the future

What exactly does a building have to do with the future? Education is an institution in itself...it's not a specific place. IMO, the camps on consolidation can be divided according to how they think the schools impact the economics of the county. Some think new schools will boost the economy while some see the loss of their community school as a death blow to their local town's economy. Which is best for the future really varies from individual to individual. The loss of jobs sure isn't gonna help anything...and the hidden costs of new unis for every sport, further travel distances on a daily basis, etc. won't either. In fact, it probably offsets any savings in personnel... And, I really don't see a HS attracting a company to invest in the county...but some folks do. It's just up to the individual, and that's why this fight has carried on for a decade..cuz there is no clear cut "best way".

Just as I thought, you have nothing. This is why I said ones from the anti side can't be taken seriously, no substance behind their argument and they fold so easily when some logic is applied to their weak lines. Thanks for playing though.
